You may already be familiar with Gamu following her appearance on the X Factor which resulted in an uproar after she was not put through to the live shows by Judge Cheryl Cole. But now the 21-year-old is back with her debut which sees her moulding her own brand of sound whilst fusing 1960’s soul with modern rap.
When Gamu set out to make her debut album, she took her time. “I wanted to make something that would last,” she says. The former X Factor star voyaged to the 1960s for inspiration, mixing it with the mainstream pop and R&B she grew up with to create a sound she dubs Nu: Vintage.
The first single Shake The Room’ taken from her forthcoming album, ‘A Love Like This’, is a flawless introduction to Gamu’s striking talent. Working with producers – Jud Mahoney (Usher), Gordy Goudie and John McLaughlin, It has taken just over a year for Gamu to put this hotly anticipated debut together.
Watch ‘Shake the Room’, which will be released above through GSound Records on 14 April. Her debut album ‘A Love Like This’ will follow in the summer.
