Wray’s Jerk Fest is a day-long rooftop celebration of Jamaican culture, hosted in Peckham with old skool sound systems such as King Tubby’s and Trevor Sax (Saxon Sound System) and more to play.
On Saturday 6th August 2pm–11pm, there’ll be nine DJs spinning through the day, including heavyweights King Tubby’s, Trevor Sax and King Yoof, and sets from Unit 137, Daddy Nature, Adam Prescott, Honeuln, Real Roots and Mr Chris.
It’s all part of a day-long festival called Wray’s Jerk Fest, which is a celebration of Jamaican culture, featuring a jerk cook-off with six pop-ups and of course Wray & Nephew rum punch and bars.
If that wasn’t enough, music fans are set to be delighted by a sunset screening of cult Jamaican crime film The Harder They Come, famous for its reggae soundtrack and influence on promoting Jamaican music across the world.
Music isn’t the only thing on the menu at this nine-hour long open-air feast of Jamaican culture, as six of London’s finest jerk BBQ exponents go head to head with their secret recipes. The spice specialists are; Fish, Wings & Tings, Mama’s Jerk, Cottons Rhum Shack, White Men Can’t Jerk, Jerk Night and Rudie’s.
Sticky-fingered sampling from each BBQ will be a tough task, but votes will be gathered throughout the day and a Master of Ceremonies (TBC) will announce the winner of the special prize at 7pm.
Wray’s Jerk Fest, hosted by Jamaica’s iconic and top-selling white rum Wray & Nephew, will also feature a live graffiti mural by Will Barras, and fierce domino competitions.
The all-important Wray & Nephew bar will serve up tots of full-bodied 100% Jamaican rum and pitchers of Reggae Rum Punch, while you can also test your drink-making skills in the Free Pour challenge and Reggae Rum Punch Relay.
Wray’s Jerk Fest, 2pm-11pm, Saturday 6th August, The Bussey Rooftop Bar, Peckham. Entry to the event is free – and it’s only £5 to sample all the jerk BBQs and have a vote in the competition. Tickets available to reserve places via Ticketweb or you can simply turn up on the day, but do get there early.
