Friendships can be a lot of like relationships. Sometimes I wish it was like the TV show Friends but in reality we don’t all stay connected and faff about in a coffee shop.
I mean you spend so much time with each other, learn to proper get to know each other, and you immerse yourselves in each others lives. There is bound to be some good and bad times. As we get older we start to realise that it doesn’t matter how many friends we have, it’s about who our true friends are. And at one stage in our lives there comes a point where we no longer feel connected anymore, or we just don’t have anything in common. We become so hard on ourselves and feel so much guilt because it’s hard to let friendships go, but at the end of the day you have to do what’s best for you. You can still appreciate what you have, just separately.
When you’re at different stages of your lives
We all have different paths, and don’t get me wrong there is no right or wrong way to live your life. But there comes a time when you both may be going in different directions and they may not understand your way of living. Instead of supporting you they decide to judge you and tell you to live it another way which of course will make you distance yourself.
You’ve changed
I find a lot the friendships I’ve had for a long time sometimes like to bring up old times, the old me. I’ve travelled and done so much since then I feel like I am just not that person anymore. They hold into the past and I am so excited about the future. Changing for some friends who get left behind can become bitter about you. That’s ok. Your true friends will support your changes. You want someone who changes as you grow older, not someone who stays the same.
There’s no more connection
It happens, we lose the connection between friends when we stop making time for each other or when life gets in the way. This doesn’t mean you have bitter feelings towards them, it just means slowly but surely you’ve already let each other go because you don’t feel the same anymore.
