Charting his success, the show will celebrate the Grammy Award winning artists career in an intimate venue, set to air on MTV on Sunday 21st August 2012. It was in front of a 150-member audience back in May, the multi-platinum artist performed an amazing set with his 10-piece band. He performed 12 songs, including ‘Pretty Wings’ from the award winning ‘BLACKSummers’Night’ which he dedicated to ‘all the people who have lost and will find love again.’ Another emotional element was brought to the evening when he played ‘Fistful of Tears’ and revealed “this song is inspired by war. I hate that we’re fighting and I can’t wait for the troops to come back … it’s also about trying to express to someone who is so beautiful and amazing and yet they just can’t see that in themselves.”
Maxwell displayed his excitable side when he bounded off the stage into the audience during ‘Get To Know Ya’, in a VH1 Storytellers first. Speaking about the series, he said “Storytellers has been around for 15 years, and it’s been 15 years since I put out my last album ’Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite’… You have this dream as a kid, and the next thing you know you’re at ‘Vh1 Storytellers’ and the crowd is singing along to your songs. It’s a blessing.”
