Dive In to an interview with Trey Songz

Trey Songz has become undoubtedly one of the ladies favourite’s gents in the music and entertainment industry we wish we could have more than just music from, if you get my drift. The sexy singer first hit the scene in 2005, however it wasn’t until 2007 after the release of his second album, which hosted hits like ‘Can’t Help but Wait’ when we really started to feel his Songz.

Five years on the Neighbours know his name and he has everyone saying aah. This summer the US singer is back to give us his fifth studio album entitled Chapter V. I sat down with him to get the inside scoop on what he has in store for us; I even managed to ask a few questions from our readers.

You’ve got a new album coming out called Chapter V, tell us about the album?
It’s set to come out late summer, I’m very excited about this album it’s my fifth album, my first album came out in 2005, to be in the game that long right now is just very much a blessing because you know a lot of artists come and go… I’ve got T.I on there, J Cole, Big Sean, Troy Taylor, Benny Blanco, a lot of great writers and producers.

You choose to have Kelly Rowland as your lead woman in Heart Attack, why did you choose Kelly?
I love Kelly Rowland, she’s a great person, beautiful inside and out, she did a great job on the video, she really studied what it was I was looking for, she came in and did her job.

“I love Kelly Rowland, she’s a great person, beautiful inside and out”

What can we expect from you in the near future, what other things do you have planned, apart from the album?
The album of course is definitely first and priority for me, outside of that I’ve got Treys Angels clothing line, it’s doing very well back in the States, and hopefully I’ll have it here. Next year Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D is coming out with me in it; I’m preparing tours as I think about releasing the album…

Make sure you come back to London…
Of course!

You’ve stated that the RnB genre isn’t quite what it used to be, people like Luther used to sell out huge venues, how would you say RnB is now?
What I mean by its not what it used to be, the genre isn’t as strong as how it used to be, if you look at the RnB and HipHop charts its mostly HipHop not RnB and HipHop. There’s a move towards the dance euro pop genre, which I don’t have a problem with it, but it’s important that the genre stays alive.

Obviously your on the road a lot, its difficult when you’re on the road because you’re not in the comfort of your own home, so what grooming essentials do you make sure you always pack?
I pack every thing I got at home (Laughs) clippers, the same body wash, the same everything I have at home I have. I have a bag dedicated to toiletries, hygiene and grooming.

A lot of people especially guys, aspire your style, but can’t necessarily afford your style, so which affordable stores do you recommend for guys trying to step their game up?
Never live outside your means, the most expensive version isn’t always the best to have they got great clothes in Zara. Over here clothes are expensive for me; I look at these prices like WTF, (Laughs). Find deals, and don’t worry about what you think people think about what your clothes cost.

So here are a few questions from the fans, who was your celebrity crush while growing up?
Beyonce.

What one thing can’t you live without, apart from your friends and family of course?
Probably my phones.

If you could visit one place in the world that you haven’t been, where would you go?
I haven’t been to Brazil before, I would like to go there… And why Brazil?…For the weather and women, WW! (Laughs)

Obviously you know that the Olympics are here this summer, what are your favourite sports to watch?
My favourite is track and field, the 100 dash, the relay, the high jump is always good to watch, oh and gymnastics too, it’s crazy to watch, when they do all that flipping and tumbling.

If you were stranded on a dessert island what three things would you want with you?
A life time supply of food (Laughs)…Nah I would bring a woman, an iPod and some alcohol (Laughs)

If you could meet one person dead or alive who would it be?
Marvin Gaye, I would ask him a million questions, umm, what was it like making music back then, what does he think of the music now.
