In PAN, Hugh Jackman plays the larger-than-life Blackbeard, the pirate all other pirates fear.
To celebrate the release of PAN in just a week’, on October 16th, we take a look at the iconic actor’s most memorable roles in cinema.
X-Men
Hugh Jackman first exploded into the public’s consciousness with his take on classic comic character Wolverine. And he’s been playing the character for 17 years! He is planning one final performance as the character, before hanging up the claws forever.
The Fountain
Jackman starred opposite Rachel Weisz in Darren Aronofsky’s drama, exploring the themes of love and immortality.
The Prestige
It wouldn’t be right to spoil the twists and turns of Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige, but, needless to say, Hugh Jackman’s magician character Robert Angier is not all that he seems.
Rise of the Guardians
Jackman has lent his voice to a number of animated characters, in films such as Happy Feet and Flushed Away. But nothing quite compares to his turn as the Easter Bunny (complete with a thick Australian accent and impressive martial arts skills).
Les Misérables
No stranger to musical theatre, Hugh Jackman received an Academy Award nomination for his bombastic turn as Jean Valjean in the critically acclaimed musical, opposite Anne Hathaway and Russell Crowe.
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl
In a career first, Hugh Jackman plays a poster, in the Sundance award-winning Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. When the film’s lead Greg seeks advice, he receives it from a Wolverine film poster, voiced by Jackman!
Chappie
Many of Hugh Jackman’s characters are heroes, from Wolverine to Van Helsing. But Chappie features a villainous turn as Vincent Moore, in Neill Blomkamp’s science fiction drama.
Pan
As Blackbeard, Hugh Jackman plays his second villain of 2015. A truly diabolical cinematic bad guy, kidnapping children to work in the mines of Neverland. Part showman, part evil dictator, one minute you might find Blackbeard singing a Nirvana track and the next moment he’s making a child walk the plank!
Pan is released in cinemas October 16th, with previews on October 10th and 11th.
