2014 looks like another great year for motorbikes with some fantastic models already available. As we begin the second half of the year we look at the top 5 so far in 2014.
Heritage
Ducati Monster 1200 S
For the first time in its history, the once rather tame Ducati Monster now lives up to its name with the arrival of the spectacular 1200 S. The latest inauguration of the bike at features a powerful 145 brake horsepower engine and high performance monobloc Brembo brakes, which are also used on Ducati’s superbike models. As well as increased performance, the Monster 1200 S keeps its iconic looks, with the exposed frame harking back to the Italian sports bikes on which the Monster range is based. Value for Money
Yamaha MT 09
Budget bikes rarely get the pulses racing but getting your money’s worth is certainly nothing to turn your nose up at, particularly in the current economic climate. The undisputed bargain bike of the year so far is the Yamaha MT 09. Officially new for 2014, although oddly released at the tail end of last year, the MT 09 is available for less than £7,000. For your money you get a reliable 847 cc engine that produces a more than reasonable 115 bhp.
The bike also features an in line triple engine configuration, an innovative design that is expected to put Yamaha back at the top of the motorcycle market.
Performance
Ducati 1199 Panigale
It has been a superb 2014 for Ducati so far, with the Italian manufacturer again featuring on our list; this time for the high performance 1199 Panigale. The superbike has a massive 1199 cc engine, which is capable of producing a huge 195 bhp; incredible power for a machine that weighs just over 190 kilograms. Unsurprisingly, this power to weight ratio gives the bike great handling and performance levels, with the 1199 capable of a top speed of almost 180 miles per hour.
Touring
BMW R 1200 RT
When it comes to touring bikes in 2014, nothing yet beats the BMW R 1200 RT. The classic tourer offers the relaxed ride you might expect from a bike in this class. The easy ride is achieved with features such as electronically controlled suspension, heated hand grips, assisted gear shifts and a power adjustable windscreen. In addition to these extra home comforts, the 2014 model now offers a slightly livelier ride with a dynamic setup option that can be manually selected for a sportier feel.
Inner City
Vespa S 150 i.e.
With the growth of inner cities in Britain on the rise, the need for an urban commute is also increasing. While cars are still the most popular form of commuting many people are now turning to two wheels to help avoid traffic jams and high tax rates. In 2014, arguably the best and most stylish solution to this growing trend is the Vespa S 150 i.e. The inner city run around features a classic design and a 4 stroke engine that gives it excellent economy.
The layout of the article is confusing. I am not totally convinced the writer of this article knows much about motorcycles. However, the power of the writing didn’t compel me to read on.
