Ireland is one of the most popular city breaks. It’s relatively cheap to fly there from the US as well. It’s slightly expensive on the spending money, but it’s totally worth it. So why visit?
Well, Ireland has breathtaking landscapes, historic castles, and pub culture like no other. It’s a traveller’s delight to be sure.
Below, we’ll list the most popular cities and what you can do there to make your trip incredible.
Dublin
Dublin is the city to be in. It’s expensive, but it’s almost impossible to go to Ireland without wanting to go to Dublin. Even just strolling down the cobbled streets of Temple Bar for some live Irish music and a pint of Guinness is enough. In fact, it’s a must.
Everyone visits the Guinness Storehouse; we’d recommend you do, too. Don’t forget to have your picture printed in the foam!
And for Dublin history, the Dublin Castle and the Book of Kells at Trinity College are must-sees. The dining is incredible. Go to the Winding Stair for perfect Irish cuisine.
Cork
Cork is less expensive. You can get a luxury holiday home in Cork from a fraction of the price. And Cork is just wonderful.
It blends tantalising culinary dishes, scenic views, and vibrant culture. We’d recommend a walk around the English Market, a haven for food lovers since 1788. Or grab a bite at the Farmgate Café, where local produce is the star.
For a bit of history, check out the Cork City Gaol. Locals will tell you not to forget to kiss the Blarney Stone at Blarney Castle, just outside the city.
In the evening, The Franciscan Well Brewery has some of the best craft beers.
Galway
Galway is often referred to as the ‘City of Tribes’. And it’s one of the most famous cities in Ireland – from songs to movies, Galways has been featured everywhere. It’s the spirit of Ireland.
Don’t miss the Galway Cathedral. It’s a stunning example of modern architecture with incredible interiors. For a touch of nature, a stroll along the Salthill Promenade is also stunning.
And then it’s time for food. Food lover? Go to Ard Bia at Nimmos. The fusion of local produce and international flavours is mouthwatering.
There’s also the Galway International Arts Festival. The annual celebration brings the city to life with writers, artists, and performers from all corners of the world. This year, 2024, the festival runs from 15-28 July.
Limerick
Limerick is a truly beautiful city with plenty of historical charm.
The Limerick City Gallery is worth a visit. The artwork is stunning, and the architecture of the building is classic. The Treaty Stone is also popular. There’s not much to it other than an iconic piece of Irish history marking the signing of a treaty in 1691 of the city to William of Orange.
Once you’re finished exploring, Nancy Blake’s pub is incredible. It has one of the most liveliest atmospheres in Limerick.
If you’re into adventure, take a short trip to the nearby Cliffs of Moher.
And no visit to Limerick is complete without visiting The French Table (if you like French food). They tastily replicate the essence of French cuisine with the charm of Irish hospitality – the food is incredible.
