The annual 95-106 Capital fm Summertime Ball took place on Sunday (12th June) at London’s Wembley Arena. Quite ironic it was called a summer time ball when it was chucking it down all day. The good old British weather didn’t stop a whopping 75,000 people making their way to the stadium to see some of music’s biggest names hit the stage, including JLS, JLo, Ne-Yo, Ceelo Green, Jessie J, Nicole Scherzinger, Wretch32, Far East Movement, Katy B, Example, Mike Posner, LMFAO, Mann and more..
For the whole event, I was occupied in the media room interviewing all of the stars so I only managed to catch parts of the show on the plasma screens they provided for us. One of the UK’s biggest boy bands, JLS kicked off the show with their live performance of ‘The Club is Alive’. The guys performed a set of 5 songs including ‘Everybody in Love’ and ‘Beat Again’. They were followed by some of the world’s biggest pop stars including Jennifer Lopez, Jessie J, The Wanted, Cee Lo Green and Enrique Iglesias.
Fresh off the back of her role as American Idol judge, Latino beauty and megastar Jennifer Lopez delighted screaming fans by performing a selection from her back catalogue including ‘Jenny From The Block’ and ‘Waiting for Tonight’ – ending with the classic tune ‘On the Floor’. She really rocked the stage and showed off her super sexy figure in a skimpy silver ensemble. UK songstress Jessie J performed her massive hits ‘Do it Like a Dude’ and ‘Nobody’s Perfect’, and was joined on stage by rapper Devlin to perform‘Price Tag.’ If there was an award for soldier of the year, it would definitely go to Jessie for delivering a sensational vocal performance even with an injured foot, after rupturing tendons in rehearsals the day before the show. Superstar singer/ songwriter Ne-Yo brought the show to a close with a 3 song collaboration including hit single ‘Give Me Everything’. Even the relentless drizzle, which continued for the duration of the event could not dampen people’s moods. They came out to have a good time, and they did just that.
