Last week the Flavour Team headed down to the Old Vic
Tunnels in Waterloo to see Labrinth perform live to an intimate crowd, showcasing songs from his forthcoming album. The night was held by Reebok who sure know how to throw a party.
The humid tunnels were lit up with lights, art installations
and a very nice complimentary bar. The dance area was set up with a stage which
would soon hold the presence of Labrinth and his warm up act, Bluey Robinson.
As I weaved through the crowds of fans, media heads and
industry dons, I found myself on a celebrity sighting session, where I spotted
Emeli Sande looking fabulous with her blonde quiff, getting cosy on the couch
with a male friend. I turned around and bumped into a very small young lady who
I barely noticed… Until I realised I had seen her on Eastenders the night
before – it was Preeya Kalidas. She accepted my apology and went to join models
Kelly Brook and Elarica Gallacher (who is also that chick who shot Jack
Branning in Eastenders) for what looked like a girlie chat.
My celebrity spotting session was abruptly put to an end
when Bluey Robinson jumped onto the stage prompting the girls to start
screaming like they were literally mental. Bluey has an amazing stage presence
and I was impressed to see that his live performance almost surpasses his
recorded material. He performed his hit ‘Showgirl’ and his latest single ‘Coming
Back’, silencing the crowd into awe.
After a canapé break, Labrinth stormed the stage and
performed several songs from his new album. My favourite was a song that I
think is called ‘Express Yourself’. He ended his set with the happy ‘Let The
Sunshine’ and finally with the explosive ‘Earthquake’ leaving the crowd
buzzing.
The talented Jack Beats hit the mic later on in the night and
got everyone lively with his crazy, erm, beats.
Afterwards, the crowd went for refreshments and the night
was one of socialising, networking, dancing and laughing.
Reebok – please invite me back next time.
