The unstoppable female lyricists of SAY MY NAME – Estelle, Erykah Badu, MC Lyte, Monie Love and rappers from the Bronx to East end London female grime MCs speak candidly about class, race, and gender in pursuing their passions as female in the music industry.
Film director Nirit Peled provides a window into the struggles women lyricists encounter when entering the male dominated world of rap music. Nirit Peled and the film producer Dave Hemmingway will be accompanied by one of the UK’s hottests lyricists Princess Nyah who will join them in a Q&A session before she performs two tracks.
This exclusive screening takes place at The Images of Black Women festival which is back with its unique 6th International Film Festival from the 9th to 11th April 2010 at the Tricycle Cinema, London, Kilburn to give visibility to black women in Film. The programme features a fantastic selection of films, performances by UK female lyricists, great debates and Q&A’s with filmmakers, an award ceremony and a dynamic festival-networking event.
