Salt Cathedral are pleased to share their brand new single – the infectious, dancehall- inspired anthem ‘Run For The Money’, featuring Assassin (aka Agenst Sasco, renowned for his collaborations with Kendrick Lamar on The Blacker The Berry and with Kanye West on Yeezus).
With a constant beat, a summary vibe and a chant-like chorus, the tropical banger talks about the struggle of passionate work reminding us to“run for the money / run for the gold / run in the evening / run ‘till you areold.”
In Juli Ronderos’s words: “’Run For The Money’ is a representation of the hard work that it takes to succeed – the hustle both to survive and to be personally satisfied. For this song, and the record, we were very inspired by Caribbean culture and music – both of which are very vibrant in out Brooklyn neighbourhood. We were really lucky to get one of our favourite singers on the track, Assassin!”
The duo have just announced their debut album via Consequence of Sound: Big Waves/Small Waves is slated for release this year (date tbd). The record, inspired by their Colombian upbringing and the predominantly Jamaican neighbourhood they live in, features collaborations with dub pioneer and legend Lee Scratch Perry, dancehall singer Assassin and Brooklyn’s own Matisyahu, with whom the duo recently released the infectious single ‘Unraveling’ at the end of 2016.
Performing at SXSW and Firefly Festival this year alongside their highly anticipated debut album release, 2017 is set to be the year of Salt Cathedral. Big Waves/Small Waves follows two widely acclaimed EPs and a handful of singles that have earned the band over 9 million streams on Spotify. With a debut record brimming with Caribbean rhythms, confrontational vocals and mesmerizing melodies, the New York-based duo’s unique and progressive stylings will no doubt see them soar to even greater heights in 2017
