BLACKHAT

After a Hong Kong nuclear plant and the Mercantile Trade Exchange in Chicago are hacked by unknown perpetrators, a federal agent (Viola Davis) proposes that the FBI work with China to find the cyber-criminals. The leader of the Chinese team, Chen Dawai, insists that convicted hacker Nick Hathaway (Chris Hemsworth) be released from prison to help with the investigation. As Nick and his comrades chase their quarry, it becomes evident that the hackers have a sinister motive for their actions.

What can I say except bland acting, bland storyline, bad sound, Good Explosive action scenes but just too boring to ignite any real passion. Move along people nothing good to see here.

THE WEDDING RINGER

Socially awkward Doug Harris (Josh Gad) is two weeks from marrying the girl of his dreams, Gretchen, (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting), but he has a problem: He doesn’t have any groomsmen for the occasion. Desperate and running out of time, Doug calls upon Jimmy Callahan (Kevin Hart), owner and operator of Best Man Inc., a company that provides attendants for friendless grooms. As Doug tries to pull off the con, a bromance unexpectedly blossoms between Jimmy and himself.

This maybe your generic, standard bachelor comedy formula but it’s a film you can let your hair down to, silly, crass and wildly predictable but you’ll find yourself having a cracking good laugh.

CAKE

Claire Bennett (Jennifer Aniston) is in pain. Her physical pain is evident in the scars that line her body and the way she carries herself, wincing with each tentative step. She’s no good at hiding her emotional pain either. Blunt to the point of searing insult, Claire’s anger seethes out of her with nearly every interaction. She has driven away her husband, her friends — even her chronic-pain support group has kicked her out. With the suicide of Nina (Anna Kendrick), one of Claire’s fellow chronic-pain group members, she starts to asks questions about the death of a woman she barely knew, exploring the boundaries between life and death, abandonment and heartbreak, danger and salvation.

This is by far one of Aniston’s best performances to date; you certainly will be surprised to see her looking pained and haggard in this film. This certainly is a redefining role for the star that is best known for her comedic roles. A grim and depressing story which lacks in real entertainment but Aniston completely makes it her own which makes up for its flaws.

PROJECT ALMANAC

David (Jonny Weston) is an aspiring 17 year old inventor, after being accepted for a place at MIT he discovers his deceased father’s secret in the basement, Parts and plans to build a time machine. Bringing together his sister, his nerdy friends and eventually his major crush, they embark on a journey to build the time machine and test it out for themselves, filming their progress along the way. Jumping back and forward in time the course of their timelines changes with each little adventure they carry out, leading to the inevitable which put everyone’s life in danger.

There was a slightly good element to this film (and I say that loosely) it had a nice amount of humour littered throughout, if you’re into that American Teenage silly humour. Just unfortunately this film never quite lives up to what it should, its main downfall is the ugly found footage camera work which pretty much puts you off from the very beginning.
