Jamaican-born poet and rapper Nadirah Sabreen Seid, known to fans as Nadirah X, has just released the video for her latest single, Nobody’s Coming, featuring Jamaican singer-songwriter Olaf Blackwood.
The single, available on all platforms marks a strong comeback for Nadirah, whose last album was released over a decade ago.
Nadirah X first burst onto the music scene in 2010 with her debut album, *INK,* produced by Dave Stewart of Eurythmics fame. The album received significant praise, with Grammy-winning producer Glen Ballard lauding her flow as both “powerful and purifying.” However, life took Nadirah on a different path, as she stepped away from the limelight to focus on personal growth. She describes this period as a time of rediscovery, even admitting there were moments when she felt “lost” to her passion for music.
Now back with a fresh perspective, Nadirah explores a new musical direction in *Nobody’s Coming,* a pop-infused track with a compelling message. The single, accompanied by a visually stirring video directed by Rillah, urges listeners to “save yourself.” Nadirah spoke to us about this new chapter and the journey that brought her back to music.
When asked about her roots and how Jamaica influenced her music, Nadirah reflected on her eclectic musical upbringing. “My parents always played a mix of everything—from Jimmy Cliff to Tom Jones. I grew up surrounded by music, thanks to my brother, who was a DJ and had his own sound system.” It wasn’t long before her passion for poetry evolved into a career in music, blending lyrical prowess with the rhythms she was drawn to as a child.
Revisiting Her Collaboration with Dave Stewart
Nadirah’s collaboration with Dave Stewart began after a chance introduction by Jamaican artist Andy Livingston. Stewart took an immediate interest in Nadirah’s talent, which led to a whirlwind of projects, including her debut album and a European tour. Recalling the early days, Nadirah said, “Working with Dave was incredible. I had the freedom to pick any Eurythmics song to sample. We ultimately chose *Here Comes The Rain Again,* and it became one of my favourite tracks.”
The artist also shared insights into working with another icon, Annie Lennox, on her track “WOMANKIND.” “It was a dream come true. Annie was so gracious, and I was just thrilled to have the opportunity to work with her.”
Finding Her Way Back to Music
After years away, Nadirah returned with a fresh perspective. She explained, “Life presented cycles that allowed for growth I needed. It was essential for me to step back and live a bit.” Now, with her new single *Nobody’s Coming,* Nadirah delivers a message born from these experiences. “The words came quickly, inspired by the chaos in the world. We need to take responsibility and save ourselves.”
What’s Next?
Nadirah has more music on the way, including a collaboration with Jurassic 5’s Chali 2NA. But for now, she’s taking things one step at a time. She encourages fans to listen, watch the new video, and subscribe for more updates.
