Today we had the pleasure of chatting to the extremely talented Desiree Akhavan, the director and lead actress of “Appropriate Behaviour“, about her Sundance premier, favourite scenes and coming out to her family.
Her debut feature film is a witty and thought provoking comedy about Shirin, a bi-sexual Iranian teacher from Brooklyn, who’s just gone through a tough break up while struggling to come out to her family.
“When I came out to my Iranian family it was kind of like coming out as a Leprechaun”
Desiree Akhavan, best known for her cult web series The Slope, stars in this story of a bisexual Iranian-American woman trying to find her way in modern-day Brooklyn. Appropriate Behaviour is an intelligent, engaging comedy that heralds an exciting new voice in indie cinema.
“When you happen to be born in a marginalised community and you think that your voice is worth being heard you become an activist”
Take a look at the official trailer for Appropriate Behaviour, which is available on DVD and On-Demand 29 June 2015.
