One person has been confirmed dead and another is injured after a gunman opened fire at French Montana’s tour bus yesterday evening. Police say that the rapper’s tour bus was surrounded by friends and hundreds of fans at the time of the shooting.
His entourage was getting off their bus at a hotel in Columbus, Philadelphia following a performance last night when a passenger in a black four-door sedan rolled down his window and opened fire, said investigating officer James Clark.
Jowann King, 26, from New York was shot in the stomach, according to reports. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. According to reports another man was also wounded in the shoulder.
Leaving the police station where he was being questioned, Montana told reporters “I don’t know the person that died.” Detectives say Montana and fellow rapper Meek Mill were both on the bus when the assassination took place. Montana said he had no idea what was happening until his associates informed him.
“It’s just ignorant. You fire into a crowd and you’re gonna hit somebody. In this case, unfortunately, someone was killed. Don’t know if they had anything to do with anything, if they were a fan or what,” said Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey.
There are reports French Montana and his entourage are currently being questioned by investigators, who say several people returned fire after the opening shots occurred.
“I’d like to give [the victim’s family] my regards,” Montana told NBC10’s Monique Braxton. Police are uncertain if either Meek Mill or Montana were the proposed targets.
