Jodie Aysha: Why the UK diva is proud to be a Pozer

JodieJodie Aysha is a British talent like no other. T2’s debut single Heartbroken that she featured on reached number two in the national charts and enjoyed 26 weeks in the top 40, as well as becoming one of the most requested tracks in 2007. The Leeds-born singer and songwriter has immense global crossover pop potential, and is well on her way to becoming one of the most exciting names of 2010. We caught up with her for a chat about her forthcoming single I’m A Pozer (zer zer zer), collaborating with Wiley and to answer a few random questions.

To anyone who hasn’t heard of you yet, how would you describe your sound?
If I could sum up my sound in three words it would be electronical, catchy and sweet.

Tell us how you first got into singing and songwriting?
Well, it all started when I was a little girl where I began writing poetry and songs. I then got two of my poems published with Leeds Young Writers. This then encouraged me to write more material, and here I am now writing for Sony ATV Publishing… there is a GOD.

So, you’re getting ready to release your debut album. Can you tell us a bit about it? Are there any special collaborations?
The album is now in its final stages, but I’m still recording because as an artist I believe you can never have enough material. But so far I am very happy with the direction as well as with Wiley making a special appearance.

What was it like working with Wiley?
Working with Wiley on our single Spotlight was really fun – although he said I worked him real hard in the studio. I didn’t mind because I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to music, and with two artists like us on a record it has to be big things.

Tell us a bit about the inspiration behind your foxy new record I’m A Pozer?
Well I wrote the song a while back in 2008, but spent a lot of time working on it to make it sound right. My inspiration for the song came from me tapping into social culture and writing about it, and let’s face it – everyone has a Pozer inside themselves.

What’s the definition of a Pozer?
Well I can’t speak for the whole world but my definition of a Pozer is someone who loves taking pictures of themselves, loves looking in the mirror and being the centre of attention. Oh no! I think I have just described myself.

Will I’m A Pozer be similar to your pervious single Heartbroken?
Hit-wise… let’s hope so. I believe it definitely has the same substance as Heartbroken, especially with its catchy sing-along vocals and bassy club beat. I can actually imagine a lot of people singing ‘Pozer Zer Zer Zer’ at me like they have being doing already.

How involved are you with the production aspect of your music?
I have to be hands-on when it comes to this as I’m a sucker for perfection. I like to know what’s what when my music is involved. I have a lot of input and tend to do the majority of it by myself in the studio, alongside my lovely engineer.

If J.O.D.I.E was an acronym what would each letter stand for?
J – Joyous
O – Original
D – Determined
I – Intelligent
E – Enthusiastic

Your costumes range from gold-sequined leather jackets to princess dresses. Who makes them for you?
My mother makes them and I do the designing. And just to let you know I have my own clothing label launching in 2011 called H.O.J.A.

And finally, a few random questions… What do you do when you think no one is looking?
Get my wedgie out. That’s if I have one.

What’s the biggest secret you’re keeping?
Hmmm I can’t tell you that because it’s a secret …….duh, get it?

Would you rather have the power to be invisible or the power to read minds?
That’s a tricky one… but if I work it out logically then it would have to be the power to be invisible. I would just meet people then turn into Invisible Jodie Aysha, and come back to hear what there are saying about me.

Jodie Aysha’s single I’m A Pozer (zer zer zer) is out in November For more info check out www.jodieaysha.com or www.twitter.com/jodieaysha
