Jhené Aiko

Grammy-nominated multi-platinum singer/songwriter Jhené Aiko announces her European Tour with three UK dates for February 2018. Tickets are on sale NOW.

Jhené recently wowed her legion of fans with the surprise release of TRIP, her life-affirming new album arriving via Def Jam Recordings / Virgin EMI Records. A masterwork more than a decade in the making – when Jhené first began writing the poetry that would evolve into the lyrics for this album – TRIP is accompanied by a short film of the same name, which Jhené wrote and directed, with help from her friend, screenwriter Tracy Oliver (Girls Trip). View the film below. Jhené has also released a touching “mission statement,” that details the inspiration for, and intent of, this massive project.

“In sharing this…I hope to inspire others to share their own mistakes, imperfections and fears,” Jhene writes. “I believe in doing so we can understand each other better and realize we are more alike than different. I hope to inspire others to share their grief and pain because I believe suffering can be alleviated when we understand we are not going through any of it alone.”

TRIP will take listeners through the unique odyssey of love and loss, heartbreak and discovery that Jhené has endured over the past decade, witnessed closely by her loyal fans. Recorded in her native Los Angeles over the course of four years, the album comprises 22 astonishing songs and clocks in at 90 minutes, with guest appearances by Big Sean, Swae Lee, Kurupt, John Mayer and Brandy, among others.

TRIP has already been characterised as nothing less than the artist’s magnum opus, a fascinating once-in-a-career project. Her fans have stood beside Jhené through the changes that have rocked her life and career these past years – the tragic loss of her brother to cancer in 2012 and her journey to try to manage her grief through relationships, substances and art. TRIP evolves into a psychedelic soul opus, a tone poem on love, loss and self-discovery.

TRIP is the long-awaited follow-up to Jhené Aiko’s critically hailed debut album Souled Out, which entered the R&B Albums chart at #1 upon its release in 2014, on Artclub/ARTium/Def Jam Recordings. The LP’s first single and video, “The Pressure” has over 11.1 million YouTube views to date.

Souled Out took flight on the strength of Jhené’s phenomenal #1 debut EP, Sail Out (2013), the biggest-selling EP in Def Jam history. Sail Out contained Jhené’s sizzling #1 crossover hit “The Worst” (over 108 million combined YouTube views to date); “Bed Peace” featuring Childish Gambino (over 35 million combined YouTube views); “3:16am”(over 13.5 million combined YouTube views); and collaborations with Kendrick Lamar and Vince Staples.

In the interim, Jhené collaborated with fellow multi-platinum Def Jam superstar Big Sean last year on their debut project together, TWENTY88. The ’70s-centric concept album delved into the highs and lows of the relationship between a famous fictional couple, with insights into conflict, memories, love, sex, and more. Production was featured from Key Wane, Detail and Tommy Brown. The TWENTY88 duo made their TV debut on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!
