J in the A part 2: Aleesha Dixon, Keri Hilson, Andre Harrell, Devyne Stephens plus more

Wow, what an interesting summer it’s been! So much has happene that I don’t know where to start. Let’s see… so June kicked off with a bunch of award ceremonies (check my column from last month for a rundown), which led to the peak of summer 2010’s key events.

I was invited to a charity fashion show hosted by Keri Hilson, in which proceeds were donated to cancer sufferers. A notable and worthy event indeed. Former Destiny’s Child member, Michelle Williams, actor Lance Gross, Roscoe Dash, Nate Walka and R&B singer Llyod all made an appearance…

Speaking of Llyod, whatever happened to him? He kind of fell off the face of the earth… the now defunct Murder Inc. literally murdered his career, oh but then of course there’s those rumours circulating about him joining the Young Money family who’s reigning supreme right now, but we’ll see how that pans out…

Another notable event took place at the end of July, The One Music Fest in which Common, Goapele and De La Soul performed. De La killed it; Goapele was cool and Common… (Drooling at the mouth) let’s just say what you see is certainly what you get and some (laughs), and yes, I’m certainly a fan. As headliner, he definitely stole the show performing tracks from his critically acclaimed album Electric Circus and current album Mind Control and closing with one of my all time favorites, “The Light.”

One of the most fascinating things about what I do is meeting the most respected and interesting individuals in the business, especially when I least expect it. A couple of weeks ago I was asked to plan a huge Def Jam party for the artist Vawn, who had been re-signed to the label. Among the attendees included producer Jazze Pha, Ryan Glover, Devyne Stephens and music mogul extraordinaire, Andre Harell, who was all smiles – I can be such a bitch, but who cares (shrug). Andre, who appears to be the “Man” in the entertainment industry seemed to be somewhat out of his element, perhaps the mile long queue to enter the building put him off, or the 20 plus photographers lined up to snap his mega watt smile made him a lil’ nervous, either/or it was a lil amusing to see how these record industry big wigs handled themselves.

After a tremulous few years on the personal front, the gorgeous Alesha Dixon is back with a brand new sound, image and confidence to match. I told you guys she and Grammy Award winning writer Nate Walka had been working together, and she chose the song he wrote, Drummer Boy to be her first single. Let me know what you think and as always keep it locked with me, J in the A to fill you in on everything’s that’s going on in Atlanta and beyond.
