Los Angeles based alt-pop band The Driver Era release new singles ‘OMG Plz Don’t Come Around’ and ‘flashdrive’
If you haven’t heard of The Driver Era by now, where have you been?
Made up of brothers Ross and Rocky Lynch, the duo has caused quite the storm since the release of their debut album ‘X‘. With both brothers writing, performing and producing all of their own tracks, The Driver Era are definitely ones to watch!
If you’ve been binge-watching on Netflix since the lockdown started, then you may recognise Ross from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and My Friend Dahmer. We caught up with Rocky about new music, touring and his most embarrassing on-stage moment.
We’re loving your two new singles ‘OMG Plz Don’t Come Around’ and ‘flashdrive’. I’ve had them on repeat since the release. What has the fan reaction been like so far? Is it what you expected?
Rocky- It’s been great. I’m glad you’re bumping the tracks 🙂 The fans seem to be digging them as well so all is good in the Driver Era world.
What is the process like from writing to recording a Driver Era song?
Rocky – Each song tends to have a different approach. Some are melody/ lyric first. Some are just production vibes till a melody naturally finds itself.
Is there one track from your debut album ‘X’ that you now see differently?
Rocky- I kinda see every song different. When I listen to a song on X now I’m very much a listener and not as attached to when we were writing and producing those songs.
So sometimes I’m surprised by certain production elements.
What’s your favourite track on the album and why?
Rocky – Probably “Welcome to the End of Your Life“. The tempos adjustments. The Lead guitar at the end. The music video. The lyric content.
Describe your sound in three words
Rocky – Inconsistent, unbiased, pop
We know The Driver Era UK/Europe Tour has been postponed until November but what was you most looking forward to doing whilst in London?
Rocky – I haven’t been to London in a couple of years so I was looking forward to just walking the streets again. Grabbing a pint somewhere.
Who has the worst habits when touring?
Rocky – Sometimes it’s hard to eat healthy because the venues you’re playing are surrounded by chain restaurants with mainly processed food. We end up eating a lot of Thai food for some reason.
Do you have any routines or superstitions when you’re on tour?
Rocky – No superstitions but a good meditation from time to time is nice.
We know gigs don’t always go as planned, What has been your most embarrassing on-stage moment?
Rocky – One of the first gigs I ever played when I was maybe 13-14 I hit my head on the headstock of my guitar and it started bleeding pretty bad. Still have a Harry Potter scar.
What would be the theme tune to your life?
Rocky – “Once In A Lifetime” – Talking Heads.
What are the future plans for The Driver Era once the crisis is over??
Rocky – As of right now, the tour is being rescheduled. Some of the dates have been postponed till 2021. Another album.
