Actress Adelayo Adedayo is the lead actress in Some Girls. A BBC3 comedy series about the lives and loves of a group of quirky 16-year-old girls who play on the same school football team and live on the same inner city estate. Viewers join them on their bumpy journey through adolescence taking in boys, sex, cliques, teachers, heartbreak, fun and even some football along the way.

We look back at an interview we did with Adelayo prior to her appearance in the series to find out her thoughts on beauty and fashion.

What was the last fashion item you brought?
It was a little back pack, vintage. It’s so cute. It was from Brick Lane, Spitalfields Market. If I see something that I really like and I really want it, I don’t look at the price, in case it puts me off and I bypass the expensive shops completely. Markets are the way to go.

If you were only allowed to have one beauty product or item, what would it be?
Vaseline… oh, but YSL mascara though…? I don’t know. I can’t choose now… No, I’ll take the mascara, because you can keep licking your lips but there is nothing you can do for the eyelashes though is there? YSL Mascara please.

What gadgets do you always bring with you on set?
Food. [Laughs] I don’t bring gadgets, I just bring food. I’ve been trying to put on weight ever since I was about 16. I’m actually on a weight gain diet at the moment, which I have invented for myself, by myself. It’s for three weeks and I’m just going to eat loads. Breakfast: Full English, Lunch: Pounded yam… [Laughs].

What websites do you immediately go to every time you log on?
Tumblr, straight away. I have a blog www.onlychildsyndr0me.tumblr.com I am an only child you see. Whenever I say that everybody always awww’s me [Laughs].

Most played song / artist on your iPod?
Probably John Mayer or Joshua Radin. I love country music. I’m a bit of a nerd.

Do you have any tattoos? Where and what of?
No, I don’t.

Where is your favourite place to eat?
Oh man, I can’t give you one, there are so many… Chicago Rib Shack in Knightsbridge. Go there, on Monday’s it’s 50% off. The Diner, I like the Soho one. Efes, that’s a Turkish place. I never knew Turkish food could be so amazing. TGIs – of course. Oh, and The Royal China in Westferry. Those are all my favourites.

Have you ever stolen anything?
No, I’m pretty boring.

Lip gloss or lipstick?
Gloss

Glammed up or casual?
Caj. I just can’t be bothered. I always think… an extra 15 minutes sleep or get up 15 minutes early to do my face? and I just think, sleep. I am really bad I should make more of an effort. My Mum is always telling me to sort myself out [laughs]. My friend came round the other day and she was all done up, when she left my Mum was like, (Nigerian accent) ‘You see your friend, she come, she puts her lipstick. You, when you go out, you just go.’ I was just looking at her like, ‘thanks mum’. [Laughs]

Heels or flats?
I love heels, I love the way they look, but I can’t walk in them. My Vans are my favourite thing. So, flats.
