Sydney indie-soul outfit Levingstone are ready to share their sophomore release, a stunning EP titled ‘Overland’. Recorded at the beautiful Grove Studios and mastered by Kelly Hibbert (Little Dragon, Hiatus Kaiyote), the three-track EP covers subjects spanning all the way from death and the afterlife, to dealing with mental illness & love, and finally the electric visions of sci-fi writer Philip K Dick, in its short but expansive breadth.
Lead singer Sammii Su says of the project, “These songs are a snapshot of where we are right now, and where we’re going – we’ve expanded our sound and we’re experimenting with new elements in our writing. We all have really diverse taste in music – so Overland definitely reflects that, it has a lot of light and shade that’s really tied together by storytelling.”
Following up from the lead single ‘Ritual’, which received airplay on Triple J/Unearthed, 2SER, Eastside, The Edge, and community stations across the country, the ‘Overland’ EP sounds like a natural progression from the sound that began on 2016’s ‘Modern Burials’.
The addition of a horn section has expanded the landscape of the songs and given them new depth, and layers of synth and vocals shimmer above the deep grooves.
