Name: Nilly Alan
Job title: Publicist / PR
Company: Jukebox PR

What does your job role entail?
Being a PR is essentially being a middleman between your client and the media, your job is to position your client in the press/media so that they are perceived in the right way, by working with the best-suited magazines, newspapers, websites, influencers pages, radio and more.

Describe your working day or week?
A typical working day in festival and events PR would be sending out news announcements, pitching out features, guides, interviews, previews and more for your client and lots and lots of chasing up emails… lots of emailing.

What key skills do you need to do your job?
You need to be able to juggle a lot at once, work and think quickly, stamina and good sales skills.

What made you decide to go for this job role?
I had always been a music and festival fan and wanted to work in the industry somehow, I started as a freelance music journalist but quickly realised that it wasn’t for me, so decided to venture into the PR side instead.

The best part of your job?
I get paid to travel around the world and get free entry to pretty much anything I want to go to!

The worst part of your job?
The stress of working with so many different clients, you must be able to work well under pressure.

If I’m choosing a course to study, what type of course suits this job best?
I would say English Language / Media / Marketing courses could help…

Does work experience really help you to get the dream job?
It definitely helps but it’s not necessary, I think as long as you have a strong will to make something work it will just happen for you!
