1 in 6 just want a free shampoo and sewing kit!

A survey of 2,000 people has found that Brits are not necessarily using their summer holidays to simply bask in the sun. As it turns out, our biggest pleasures on holiday are escaping the every-day – whether that is not having to clean the house or having the opportunity to be a little naughty and steal the miniature toiletries!

The study, commissioned by bathstore, looked into Brits holidaying habits, and 66 per cent of those surveyed said that the best part of their holiday was the relief of stepping away from the domestic drudgery of cleaning.

To further highlight that we are a nation of simple pleasures, more than 1 in 6 (17 per cent) of us admitted that one of the best things about being on holiday was stealing the toiletries, with Norwich and Southampton being the cities that admitted to stealing the most mini shampoos.  Other popular perks of staying in a hotel included not having to cook, having the luxury of an en suite and a comfy bed.

Unsurprisingly, those of us that are in a relationship admit they use a holiday as an excuse to spice up their love life, but strangely it’s the bathroom that is seen as the most romantic room in the hotel suite. Of those surveyed, 39 per cent admitted that they try to coax their partner into having a sexy shower or bath. Reasons stated for the bathroom as being the most ‘sexy’ room, included: “its much more luxurious than our bathroom at home” and “it’s cleaner than our bathroom”!

However, when it comes to the journey to our destination, many participants highlighted that using a “toilet-in-transit” was their worst experience of the trip. Nearly a third of us (31%) hate using toilets on aeroplanes, and a further fifth of us won’t go to toilets on trains or coaches, instead choosing to ‘hold it in’ for the full course of the journey.  Spare a thought for the truly loo phobic eight per cent of Brits who refuse to use a public toilet which must make any kind of outing a nightmare!

Sam Collins, bathstore’s Bathroom Executive Officer commented on the trends, “As a bathing connoisseur, the bathroom is always of primary concern for me wherever I travel, however I was pleasantly surprised to see that our nation holds it up there as one of the key perks of going on holiday. What’s better than sharing a blissful bath with your loved one and you don’t even have to rinse it out!?”
