Gina B – Black Lace

Black lace, leather studs and spikes have emerged as a prominent trend for A/W’12 shows like Versace.

Lace can no longer be branded as intimate apparel for lingerie and nightwear. As it is a favourite feature in the every changing fashion seasons time and time again. Since autumn winter 2010/2011 Dolce & Gabanna have used lace to give a feminine twist to work wear. While true to their name Valentino used lace to create figure hugging lace gowns. Roberto Cavalli didn’t shy away from being adventurous by incorporating lace leggings into strong tailored looks with masculine blazers and stiletto heels.

The trend for beautiful black Chantilly lace masks first emerged in 1976/77 in the Valentino Couture Fall Winter collection shot by David Bailey for Vogue Italia. The edgy accessory exudes a mix between an ethereal mystery and feline sexuality.

With this in mind Photographer Marcus Flemmings and I re-created an Avant Garde black lace inspired beauty series. In order to create a vamp-ish Victorian inspired look volume and texture was added to the hair by curling and pinning it into a messy beehive. Black lace was used as a feature across the face and neck to extenuate the gothic tone. And to finish off bright red gemmed lips and soft smoky eyes where used to reinforce the feline stature of the model.
