Five Fall Trends to Try

The September issues recently lined the magazine aisle in the stores, bulging with all the trends we should be following this fall. It’s one of the highlights of the year for fashion, so let’s take a look at the best five trends to invest in.

1. Chunky shoes

The robust silhouette continues to reign the catwalk (Balenciaga , Paul & Joe) and the high streets of America. Think cleated soles on black leather boots and loafers. Not only do they look good but they’re also pretty practical. Make sure you have a good pair of waterproof boots too — drenched feet is not a good look. A classic pair of Hunter or Joules wellies are perennial favorites.

2. Fringing

Whether it’s on your bag, coat, skirt or boots — fringing transcends from summer into winter. Go for neutral colors and wear with black for a subtle take on the trend. For instance, a black turtle neck with a tan knee length skirt featuring fringing detail, looks sophisticated but also a little fun. Lanvin even jazzed up pair of evening gloves with a little fringing!

3. Faux fur

Faux fur not only looks cool but it keeps you nice and warm too. The catwalks (Celine, Michael Kors) saw a lot of faux fur cuffs and collars on winter coats. You can buy detachable stoles to pair with your favorite jackets and coats or buy a faux fur hat for that chic après ski look.

4. Grey

Could it be that the 50 Shades series has had an effect on designers this year? Muted greys were ubiquitous on the catwalks (Max Mara, Stella McCartney) mostly in the form of sharp trouser suits. This is a great look for the office and it looks even sleeker paired with a crisp white shirt and a good pair of stilettos.

5. High waists

Feminine waists are further enhanced with the return of the high waist line, seen at Jason Wu and Versace. Whether it’s a skirt, tailored trousers or jeans, tuck in your shirt and wear a delicate belt for a classic lady like look.

With a couple of new pieces you can really add some new style to your fall and winter wardrobe. Remember the main thing is to look good and feel nice and warm in the colder months.
