EA SPORTS will release its FIFA Ultimate Team of the Year on January 12th.Based on the Official FIFPro World XI, the FUT Team of the Year gives gamers the opportunity to play with and against the best players in the world, with their in game stats boosted to reflect their outstanding form in 2014. But who WERE the best eleven players in the world in 2014?

To debate this, EA SPORTS brought together some of football’s most opinionated and respected voices – Rio Ferdinand, Joey Barton, Kyle Walker, and the strongest player in FIFA, Adebayo Akinfenwa. Each player selected their best eleven, and then fought their corner to come up with their combined Team of the Year. Will their choice match the FIFPro World XI? Which former team mates did Rio select? Who did the strongest player in the world pick to cause ‘ultimate damage’ in midfield? And could they all come to an agreement?

Rio: I read somewhere that Pep Guardiola said [Philip Lahm] is the most intelligent footballer he’s over coached. Now he’s coached Xavi, Messi….

Barton: He’s never coached me though….

Barton: I would strongly push for Sergio Ramos, because he also gives you a goal threat

Walker: For me, I went Thiago Silva. He’s a leader, but first and foremost he’s a great footballer

Akinfenwa: I’m looking at the three [midfielders] who can cause ultimate damage, and that’s Pogba, Hazard and Iniesta….

Rio: Who’s better, Ronaldo or Messi?

Akinfenwa: For me, Messi’s god given, but Ronaldo’s worked. For me I think Ronaldo is complete.

Barton: Who’s the manager?

Rio: I’m the manager! I’m managing.
