How does it feel to be bringing out music as a solo artist after being in a successful band?
It’s just very different, with the brand project your specifically making product to focus on pleasing a target demographic audience and now with what I’m doing I’m just enjoying making music freely.
What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
One of the best pieces of advice I’ve been given is by my friend Jeymes Samuel (from The Bullitts & music orchestrator of The Great Gatsby) , he said to me “Oritsé focus on creating the highest level artistry you possibly can, nothing else matters”
Have you ever had moments where you just want to get back together as a band?
I think were all fresh into our individual projects so we are all just enjoying getting into our new starts.
Who first inspired you to get into music? And what artist or band?
In all honesty I was always more inspired by the music entrepreneurs/Artists who created movements and thought outside of the box, I would study the back stories of people like Berry Gordy(founder of Motown), JayZ, Diddy and even Megaman (founder of SoSolid Crew)
What is your favourite thing about the process of writing songs?
Songwriting for me on this project OWS is like my therapy, I’m being extremely honest in my songs and I really love that I can express myself through lyrics and melody.
Who was your inspiration to write your debut single ‘Waterline’?
Real life is always at the centre of my inspiration, Waterline is about a troubled relationship where you don’t want to let the one you love go and you want to feel their love, intimacy one last time. This is something we’ve all been through at some point in our lives.
What is it like working with Pusha T?
Pusha’s like my big bro, we loved doing the record together and also performing in the video together, he’s a very nice guy and I’m humbled as he has been very supportive of me from the start.
Would you do a collaboration with any of your old band mates?
HAHhaah maybe Marvin (Luvbug) could remix one of my records, could be an idea!
What advice would you give to someone that wants to pursue a career in music?
Be the dopest at your art that you can possibly be and continuously hone your craft.
What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment?
My greatest accomplishment is my son Omré .
