Chris Brown and Lil Wayne lead the nominations at the BET Awards

chris brownChris Brown leads the nominations with 6 nods for this year’s Black Entertainment Awards, the annual awards bash celebrating music and entertainment influenced by the American black community.

The ‘Yeah 3x’ singer has an impressive haul of nominations, including Best Male R&B Artist, Viewer’s Choice and Video of the Year for his track ‘Look at Me Now’.

He has also picked up two nominations in the ‘Best Collaboration’ category for his tracks ‘Look At Me Now’ – featuring Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne – and ‘Deuces’, which includes vocals from Tyga and Kevin McCall. Brown’s sixth nomination is ‘Best Actor’ for his role in thriller Takers.

Chris immediately took to twitter after the nominations, writing: “Thx to B.E.T for all the support and I love you.”

He is joined in the Best Male R&B Artist category by Cee Lo Green, Bruno Mars, Trey Songz and Usher.

Lil Wayne follows in the number of nominations, with five nods for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, Viewer’s Choice and three more through his guest appearance on Chris’ ‘Look at me Now’, while Rihanna bags the most nominations of any female performer, having being named in four categories.

In the Female R&B Artist category Rihanna finds herself up against Marsha Ambrosius, Beyonce, Keri Hilson and Jennifer Hudson. The Best Female Hip-Hop Artist category sees Nicki Minaj face off against Diamond, Cymphonique and Lola Monroe.

UK artists are making enormous strides internationally. Former Floetry singer Marsha Ambrosius is up for three awards in the Best Female R&B Artist, Video of the Year and the Centric Award category after the release of her critically acclaimed album Late Nights & Early Mornings.

Leading UK grime and rap stars Chipmunk, Tinchy Stryder, Skepta and Tinie Tempah alongside Laura Izibor and VV Brown have been nominated for Best International Act UK.

Kevin Hart will host the show at LA’s Shrine Auditorium on June 26 and the show will air on UK TV on Thursday 30 June, 2011 at 8pm. (Sky Channel 191 and Freesat 140).
