Chaka Khan’s Meltdown Festival returns this year with more names added to the lineup and two weekends of free events.
From June 14 to June 23, the Southbank Centre will come alive with a celebration of music, diversity, and community.
New Additions
The festival’s lineup boasts an impressive array of talent, with renowned artists joining the stage across multiple venues. In the Royal Festival Hall, audiences can expect soulful performances from Emeli Sandé, Bruce Hornsby, and the legendary band War. Meanwhile, the Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer will showcase the eclectic sounds of Les Amazones d’Afrique, Master Peace, and Big Joanie.
As the sun sets, the Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer transforms into a hub of vibrant nightlife, hosting unforgettable club nights featuring Norman Jay and techno powerhouse Adonis, among others. For those seeking a more intimate experience, the Purcell Room offers an up-close encounter with artists like Anaiis, Sipho, and Reuben James.
Free Programme
Integral to the Meltdown experience is the extensive free programme, curated by Chaka Khan herself. From spirited dance parties to wellness workshops, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Highlights include Tell Me Something Good, a house and disco mash-up, and London Queer Sound System Day, featuring performances by LGBTQI+ collectives.
Throughout the week, attendees can participate in yoga sessions, sound baths, and life-drawing classes, reflecting Chaka Khan’s commitment to well-being and self-care. The festival culminates with energetic performances by Kinetika Bloco, Sisters In Dub, Queer C*ntry, and Vibe Village, ensuring a memorable conclusion to this summer extravaganza.
