With the new year well and truly underway, I thought as the health and nutrition editor at Flavourmag, why not interview some celebs on their diet and healthy living regimes. This week I’m asking Cat Trentham about her lifestyle.
You look like you are in great shape! What is your secret?
“Thank you! It’s all a result of a lot of hard work and dedication! Training as hard as your body will physically allow; eating well and getting enough sleep and good quality rest to make sure you’re always on top form for training.”
You have a very classic look. What is your favourite clothing brand?
“My absolute favourite clothes are the ones I get sent from my sponsors: Machine Fitness and First Protein. Machine Fitness have an awesome new range of gym wear (a lot of which I like wearing outside of the gym as well!) First Protein do great clothes too – I have spent the majority of the winter in one of their hoodies!”
Everyone loves to snack. What is your favourite healthy snack?
“My favourite healthy snack, without a shadow of a doubt, is protein pancakes! I love them! I mix First Protein protein powder with egg whites, porridge oats and honey and then cook like an ordinary pancake. If I’m eating them post workout I’ll usually have some blueberries with them; delicious!”
Would you say you eat healthily?
“Yes, I used to think that such extreme intensity training qualified me to eat as I liked, however cleaning up my nutrition is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. Not only has my athletic performance increased significantly, but my physique is looking much better too – the best it ever has. I eat 5-6 meals a day made up largely of steak, chicken, turkey, tuna, eggs, nuts, green vegetables, sweet potatoes, boiled brown rice, porridge oats and of course – protein pancakes! 🙂 ”
Your make up is flawless! Do you have a particular favourite brand of make up that you rock regularly?
“Thanks! I like the Dainty Doll range by Nicola Roberts – I struggle a little finding anything else pale enough to match my skin tone!”
On your website, you talk about X Training, which is for the hardcore. What do you like so much about it?
“There isn’t really anything that I don’t love about it! It’s the ultimate test of fitness! It tests your strength, strength endurance, speed, explosive power and above all your mental drive. I love anything measurable which allows me to be competitive and this fits the bill perfectly. Competing is great too – the other athletes are amazing and the atmosphere is always fantastic.”
How often do you work out?
“It varies from week to week as it depends on what I’m doing in each session. Typically I do anywhere between 6-12 sessions a week. I always make sure I have one full day to rest and on all other days I’ll do either one or two sessions. Some of the ironman sessions I’m doing at the moment though are so long and so tough that it would be impossible to manage more than one in a day!”
Do you have any special diet rules when you do your X Training?
“Because my nutrition is clean all the time now anyway, I don’t really change anything. My carbs are fairly high throughout to support my training, although I may increase them slightly in the week prior to my competition (main sources: sweet potatoes / boiled brown rice / oats – I avoid all wheat based carbs).
The most important thing for me, doing such an endurance based sport is taking on enough protein both pre and post workout to prevent any muscle breakdown. The First Protein products are great for this!”
If you could give our readers one healthy tip, what would it be?
“Stay well hydrated – drink lots of water and try to get enough sleep. An overall sense of wellbeing will put you in much better stead to do well with training and nutrition!”
