The latest venture from Charlie Gilkes and Duncan Stirling is opening its doors in 2017.
Introducing an immersive experience of two different worlds, the upstairs pizzeria and aperitivo bar BungaTINI (just opened) and downstairs Bunga Bunga Covent Garden to open spring 2017.
Just as The Godfather Part II was the ultimate sequel, Bunga Bunga Covent Garden will also be a suitable follow up for the legendary Battersea site which has just celebrated its 5th anniversary and is well loved for its tongue-in-cheek performances, and delicious Italian food and cocktails. The new site will signal a more sophisticated direction for Bunga Bunga – already a firm favourite with A-List fans including Margot Robbie, Cara Delevingne, Katherine Jenkins and Spice Girl Melanie C – without ever losing its sense of fun.
On the ground floor, BungaTINI will open its doors from early morning, offering Italian produce, breakfast pastries and the very best coffee. General Manager, Matthew Richardson previously managed the original Beak Street Polpo, and has been travelling through Italy all summer handpicking suppliers along with Head Chef, Andrea Pesenti, formally of Mele e Pele. Throughout the day, guests can pop in to enjoy homemade paninis cut off from a foot-long homemade focaccia, salads and, of course, the signature Bunga Bunga pizzas cooked in a wood fired Valoriani oven. The delis eye-catching display counter will have an excellent selection of cured meats, antipasti and homemade pasta available to take away or enjoy in the lively space decorated in warm wooden panelling, terracotta and original mosaic tiles.
As dusk falls, BungaTINI will transition into a vibrant bar where negronis, bellinis, spritzes, Vermouths and a wide range of proseccos will be enjoyed alongside small plates as part of the AperiTINI menu. Guests can sit on comfortable leather stools at the bar or rustic tables and enjoy a complimentary cicchetti with their cocktail, in true Italian tradition, or head up the spiral staircase for more of an authentic restaurant experience with full waiter service. This attractive space with original beams and decked out with fresh green foliage, will serve pizzas homemade in the clay oven alongside antipasti, pasta and other delicious wood-fired dishes. The perfect pit stop either pre or post-theatre, the 30-cover trattoria can also be hired privately.
The downstairs Bunga Bunga supperclub will offer a theatrical journey from the moment guests arrive, the entrance being accessed by a large industrial meat locker, inspired by Don Corleone himself, and complete with blast chiller, hanging carcasses and butcher who guests will have to negotiate with to pass through the room. If successful, they will be greeted by another character, a slick gangster type sporting full evening dress who will lead them down a magnificent marble staircase with a grand chandelier to meet The Boss.
