The Brits are coming! Ok they came this week (no pun intended) and the award ceremony was bigger than ever! Flavour looks at who won what, who said what and Lady GaGa’s Triple Pleasure at the 2010 Brits Awards.
Lady GaGa came out on top scoring not one but 3 gongs for Best Int’l female, Int’l Breakthrough Act and Best Int’l Album. Never one to let us down in the style stakes she rocked the red carpet donning a bouffant do that Marge Simpson would be proud of and dressed in fantasy-esque design by the late Alexander McQueen.
It wasn’t all about the Americans turning up glory on British soil, Florence and the Machine walked away with Best British Album for their highly impressive ‘Lungs’, while Dizzee Rascal took Best British Solo Artist and Kasabian won Best British Group.
Hosted by the hilarious Peter Kay the funniest moment of the night was when he described the lovely JLS as the black Bucks Fizz…easy- Flavours current cover (super)stars are not singing for their supper on Eurovision quite yet. In fact the X-Factor runners up walked away with two awards for Best Breakthrough and Best Song.
Stars performing on the night definitely pulled out all the stops, with JLS, Lady Gaga, Lily Allen and Kasabian all taking to the stage amid pyrotechnics, dancers, rockets and enough stunts to put a Bond movie to shame. The Dizzee/ Florence and the Machine mash up of Dirtee Cash vs You’ve Got The Love got the crowd pretty hype but the best performance of the night was definitely Jay Z and Alicia Keys. They gave us UK citizens a New York state of mind. The two stars ooze iconic status whenever they perform this track.
Miss Cole did her best Fighting For Love on stage. It was clear from the soldier like demeanour and passion she displayed during her performance that she’s still holding onto the ever naughty Ashley Cole…
Best non singing performance was given by the mardy manc Liam Gallagher who diligently thanked the whole of Oasis when he walked on stage to receive the award for Best winning British Album for 30 yrs. Did I say all of Oasis? Because poor Noel didn’t get a mention! Guess blood ain’t thicker than water in the Gallagher household and there’s no reconciliation on the cards for the famously feuding duo. The bad boy of cool Brittania proceeded to throw his statuette and microphone into the crown. And we all thought he had learned to calm that mancunian fire…
