BET Black Girls Rock: 10 Reasons Why

The annual BET Black Girls Rock! Show took place this week and will be finally hitting our screens tomorrow evening.

The foundation was founded by Beverly Bond and aims to inspire young girls to achieve amazing things in media and the arts as well as in life. The annual show lets us pay homage to some of the ladies that have inspired the foundation and those who give us hope for the future.

To celebrate the second annual event, Flavour conducted our own poll to show some love to our Black British treasures that have really made a difference in communities, countries and lives. You can vote for your favourite here.

In the run up to the shows broadcast here in the UK, we’ve compiled our own list. Check out our 10 reasons why Black Girls Rock! And don’t forget to tune into the show on BET Sky channel 191 at 9pm this Saturday.

Fashion Forward – Black Girls Rock the runway like superstars. But when British born Jourdan Dunn became the first Black model to walk the Prada runway in over 10 years, the tremendous progression became apparent.

Family First – Black Girls Rock because they have big hearts and never forget their family in the happy times or sad ones.

Hair Heroes – Black Girls Rock amazing hairdos that some would only imagine attempting with ease and an off-the-richter swagger.

Love Where We Live – Black Girls Rock their postcode with pride, whether it’s a mansion or an estate; we care for our community.

Running the Rhythm – Black Girls Rock a beat with professional rhythm and an admirable swagger that could put others to shame.

Struggle to Success – Black Girls Rock with their heads held up high, even though it hasn’t always been easy. Thanks to iconic figures, life is easier as an ethnic minority; but we’re still working hard.

Bootylious Bodies – Black Girls Rock curves with pure pride. You know you don’t need to be stick thin to be sexy and confident.

Fearless Fire – Black Girls Rock because they are not afraid to reach for their dreams even if it means you don’t succeed the first time. You just dust yourself off and try again.

Achieving Anything – Black Girls Rock their limits beyond the sky. Whether you want to be a doctor, a writer, an athlete or a singer, nothing is impossible.

Music Movements – Black Girls Rock the music scene.  RnB, Hip Hop, Pop and Dance… Black music is growing steadily in mainstream music. Emeli Sande, Beyonce, Alexandra Burke, Rihanna… need I say more?
