Critically praised pop/rock band Beat The System, have announced the release of their powerful new single ‘Hero’.
Recorded in New York’s Flux Studios and produced by Andy Anderson (4-Time Dove Award Winner), mixed by Grammy Nominated engineer Page Lewis (Katy Perry, Rihanna, Selena Gomez) and mastered by Chris Athens (Rhianna, Coldplay, Wiz Khalifa) the single is now available for pre-order on iTunes.
Beat The System consists of brothers Gerald Sellan (drums) and Stewart Sellan (lead guitar), May Leigh (vocals), with Adrian Puan as the band’s main songwriter. Originally partnered with Warner Music Group Malaysia the band first received praise from tastemakers across the board when they won ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Best Collaboration’ at the prestigious Asian Voice Independent Music Awards.
Hailing from halfway across the globe the Sellan brothers moved from Malaysia to New York City in December of 2014. Upon meeting Leigh the three piece formed Beat the System under direction from A&R Representative Diana Meltzer. Focused on sending out a positive tone and message through their music, Beat The System draws much of their inspiration from their own personal experiences.
We had quick mini interview with Beat The System about the release and this what they had to say…
How excited are you about the release of your new single?
Based on the reaction and feedback of our newly released debut single ‘Be Your Own’ so far, we are absolutely stoked! Though the song has not been released for a long time, we’ve been receiving many personal messages from people all over the world telling us how much the song meant to them and how the song has helped them get through a difficult situation.
What was it like working with Andy Anderson?
Our working experience with Andy Anderson is nothing but great! His ideas are fresh and modern. He takes the time and effort to understand the band’s music direction and that helps create a synergy between his ideas and ours.
You’ve moved from Malaysia to New York, how as this helped your music?
Having basked in a whole new creative environment for some time have drawn us out from our comfort zone and challenged us to broaden our horizons. We’ve had the opportunity to work with many music veterans as well as established music executives who have been so generous with their knowledge of music and the its industry.
Give us 3 rules you live by in your day to day life
1. Stay positive, ALWAYS
2. Don’t let ego get in the way, always be willing to learn
3. Closed doors will eventually lead to an open door
What can we expect from you in the future?
Expect more positivity and hopefully even greater music in the future. We’re always working tirelessly to bring about music that acts as a positive variable in people’s lives, no matter how significant or insignificant it may be.
Name us three people you would love to work with musically?
Oh goodness, there are many respectable artists/legends out there whom we’ve been dreaming to work with! If we could only name 3, it will have to be Mariah Carey, Adele, and Steven Tyler!
What can we expect from your tour
A great and dynamic performance from the band with as little gimmicks as possible. We will also throw in a few surprises for our wonderful fans.
