Thursday 10th January, I was lucky enough to attend the BBC Music Awards in Birmingham. One Direction kicked off the awards with a performance of their new song ‘Drag Me Down’, Fans from all over Europe camped out to watch the boys and even catch a glimpse of them on the red carpet. One Direction were sensational as usual, this was one of the last performances of the lads this year.
The first winner of the night was Adele for British Artist of the Year, Adele sent a message to her fans thanking them, “Sorry I’m not there, I’m absolutely gutted but thanks so much for my award. Thank you so, so much. I hope you’re having a wonderful night”.
Other than One Direction’s Performance, Hozier was amazing, performing his worldwide known song ‘Take Me To Church’. Hozier wooed the audience. Little mix also stole the night and followed as my third favourite performance of the night singing their new song ‘Black Magic’.
Taylor Swift won International Artist of the Year, thanking her fans via video message, “I wish I could be there right now but I’m on tour in Australia. Thank you so much for this BBC Music Award for International Artist of the year. It was an amazing highlight for me getting to play Big Weekend in Norwich. You guys have been so wonderful. Thank you so much, it’s amazing”.
Chris Evans and Fearne Cotton presented Jack Garratt, a one-man band, a BBC Music Introducing Artist of the Year Award. Jack Garratt showed Genting Arena what he is made of, by performing ‘Worry’.
Hozier was also a winner on the night, winning Song of the Year for ‘Take Me To Church’.
The night was filled with performances by One Direction, Little Mix, Hozier, Ellie Goulding, Years and Years, OMI and many more including the man, the myth, the legend… Rod Stewart!
Rod Stewart ended the show with an amazing performance of his hit songs ‘Please’ and ‘Sailing’. I felt very honoured being at the BBC Music Awards and I cannot wait to see what’s in store next year.
