At 19 years old, singer/songwriter AVARA is someone to keep an eye on. A lover of music from the age of 4, music has been an integral part of her life.

Finally realising her dream to push her love of music as a career she talks to us about music, vulnerability, and fashion.

What or who started you into music?

Wanting to become a singer and songwriter has always been a dream and passion of mine since I was a little girl. What really got me started into music was listening to songs, dancing to them, and singing karaoke when I was a kid. I was around the age of four or possibly younger when I started getting interested in music. I had singing lessons as well as piano lessons from the age of 4 or younger. It meant I was always exposed to the art of music. At 6 I had made up my mind to become a singer. I always told anyone who asked me that I would be a singer and performer when I was older.

You are also self-taught-challenging?

I am more or less self-taught. I stopped piano and singing lessons at around the age of 12 and began having partial singing lessons at the age of 14. Now however I want to change as I would like to expand my vocal ability. I would like to be a vocalist within my songs and really show the limits of what I am able to achieve with my voice.

How did your family react when you said you wanted to pursue music?

My family didn’t react so well. No one in the family pursued music before. Most people in my family followed business. I changed the entire path my family took. My family did not see music as serious or a valid option to bring in money and so this made it more difficult for me. This impacted my motivation and happiness to follow music. My family are very conservative and religious which is why performing arts for them was something difficult to process. With time, they supported my passion and love for music. Now I am following my dream I showed them how serious I really am about it.

Why music? How does it make you feel and how would you react if music was not in your life?

Music makes me feel alive. It is something that makes me wake up in the morning and something that helps me go to sleep. For me, music is a meaning of life and a meaning of ‘Myself.’ Not only my personality but also my mental health depends on music. It has helped me get past some of my most depressive states as well as traumas and my darkest nightmares. Music is something I love not just because of the art but because of the meaning behind it. Music to me is not only sound but an endless number of frequencies, which affect my mood. It helps me meditate bringing me calm, peace and spirituality. If music was not in my life, I feel my life would have no meaning and I as a person would not know who I am.

You state you are “vulnerable” “emotional” and “sensitive” to the “world.” In what way and how does this help you as a singer/songwriter?

Me stating that I am vulnerable, emotional, and sensitive doesn’t mean when you see me this is how I appear. I am strong-willed, a very open person, and brave. Being sensitive and vulnerable is a state that I would only ever let my loved ones or my very close friends see. I don’t always like to show my feelings to anyone, especially to those I don’t trust which in this case is pretty much nearly everybody.

The only way being vulnerable and sensitive helps me as a singer and songwriter is that it enables me to truly let all my feelings out within my music and lyrics. It helps me to let go of many things that I hold deep inside my heart.

Your musical inspirations are eclectic. Is there a musician who has inspired you the most?

My musical inspirations range from pop to electronic music, however, in electronic music I would say a group of DJs called Keinemusik which consists of Rampa, Adam Port and &Me. They create house mixes of popular upbeat songs and create magical atmospheres with their music and drone shows during their events. They can connect with their audiences’ hearts through the art of electronic music.

You have a real fashion sense about you-talk a bit about fashion who inspires you?

I’m very passionate about fashion in general. My fashion sense has changed multiple times over the past few years. In fact, my fashion sense has changed around five times alone this year. I’m always trying to find new styles and new aesthetics. I always love to try new things and new styles.

In fashion one of my biggest inspirations now would be the brands Alaia, Entire Studios, Christian Dior, Schiaparelli, Oscar de la Renta and much more. I’m always mixing and matching items of clothing at home, I also love to explore different colour combinations and in addition I love layering clothing on top of each other to create accent pieces on looks.

Your debut single Lose My Mind, explain the title, what this track is about and why did you choose this as the debut?

My single Lose My Mind aims to reach the hearts of young girls or young boys who have gone through heartbreak, disappointment, and confusion inside of their brain. Letting them know that they are not alone and that it’s okay to feel lost, confused, and heartbroken. Love is not always what you may think it seems to be.

As soon as I wrote the song, I knew this would be my debut. This was the first ever songs that I was truly satisfied with and resonated with my feelings and truly represented what I wanted it to represent.

What’s next for you in 2025?

In 2025 I aim to release a few more singles, travel the world, learn new cultures, and create mesmerising content regarding my music for the public to see. In addition, start working on an album. I have the name and the number of songs for the album written in my notes for over 3 years. I never had the chance to start on it because I didn’t feel like the time was right. 2025 feels like the right time to start this album. and at the same time release some singles throughout the year and hopefully be able to start.

Lastly, I want to perform more and expand my audience.
