An illustrated guide to the most iconic fictional locations of all time

iconic locations

Who doesn’t love losing themselves in a fictional land every once in a while?

Whether you’re watching The Simpsons’ latest escapades at tea time, have your head buried in one of Harry Potter’s many tales or are catching the battle between the Jedi and the Sith on the big screen, taking a trip to one of these destinations serves as happy escapism to most of us.

But which fantastical alternate reality is the most iconic? It’s a tremendously difficult question that the team over at Rawlins Paint have attempted to answer.

Taking 14 of the biggest locations in pop culture history, they’ve created an infographic designed to pit one another against each other. Each location is given a brief description, has a feature, a flaw and is rated on the iconic bar.

So which location was deemed the most iconic?

Could it be the Death Star? The imperial base and planet destroyer was the setting of several epic battles in the Star Wars franchise, and with the new film breaking box office records around the world, many a fan of the series will have their money firmly planted on this location to prevail.

Could it be Jurassic Park’s Isla Nubar? Jurassic World took the dinosaur franchise roaring into the 21st century, and was met with both critical and commercial acclaim. With dinosaurs of all shapes and sizes and the iconic opening gates to the park greeting all who enter, will the island have enough bite to see off it’s competition?

Or could it be Hogwarts? The School of Witchcraft and Wizardry had plenty in store for Harry Potter and his crew of magical acquaintances. With the castle and its surroundings having not just Harry Potter World in the UK but a world of it’s own in Florida’s Island of Adventure dedicated to its legend, JK Rowling’s creation might just be able conjure up a victory.
