Ok so here’s something from those huge Nigerian musical legends of the afro-beat scene P Square.

P Square are bonafide stars of the scene having worked with some of the biggest artists from Africa like 2Face Idibia and from around the globe think-Rick Ross and Akon.

Since coming onto the music landscape circa 2003, they have more than proved their talent for creating popular music. Ten years on and their musical consistency is unquestioned producing track after track of excellent music as a testament to their artistry; to date they have put out five albums and in 2014 they add album number 6.

Double Trouble as their latest project sees more of the same from the twins and a little more.

Of course there are the obligatory afro beat enthused tracks on this sixteen track album with big names from the scene like the huge Don Jazzy who features on the aptly named, Collabo but it’s their forays into genres outside afro-beat that gives their sound real dimension.

It’s been a sign of the times with Afro-American musical collaborations like D Banj with Snoop on Mr Endowed (2010). Here the cuts with T I on the brilliant lead single Ejeao fulfills that liaison criteria. An interesting feature comes in the shape of Jermaine Jackson on Zombie. No dis-respect to Jermaine but I am sure that if Michael Jackson was still alive they would have rather asked MJ thus fulfilling a lifetime dream I am sure. As it is Jermaine supplies that signature ‘oh oh’ that MJ was famous for and the sum of the collabo is a more rnb sounding track that funnily enough does not stick out like a sore thumb.*

Double Trouble currently number 7 in the World Charts is a mix of all that is good about P Square with a little more in terms of genres they dabble in. It’s not my best album of the year but it is an album you can put on and listen to without skipping the majority of the tracks.

*Just in case any of you get the wrong idea even without the Afro-American collabos the album would still be good!
