“Okay, let’s be brutally honest — this is the old guy award,” he joked as the audience cheered. “This is like the grandpa award, and after this, I get to go to the geriatric ward.”
The 35-year-old actor joked when receiving the Ultimate Choice award, he took a more serious tone serious as he made one startling revelation and three pieces of life advice in his nearly 5-minute speech. His confused fans continued to hoot and holler throughout.
Ashton Kutcher amazed the audience at the Teen Choice awards on Sunday night by giving away “insider secrets” inspired in part by Steve Jobs, the Apple co-founder who Kutcher has recently played in his new film “Jobs”.
Kutcher decided to use his status as a tech pioneer and investment guru to offer some advice. First he revealed he felt like a “fraud”, and that until he was 19 he was known by his first name, Chris.
Then he listed his less glamorous jobs before he found fame, including sweeping a factory floor, saying “I believe that opportunity looks like hard work”. “Every job I had was a stepping stone to the next one, and I never quit a job before I had the next one.”
Next he turned to “sexiness”. “The sexiest thing in the entire world is being really smart. And being thoughtful. And being generous. Everything else is crap! … It’s just crap people try to sell to you to make you feel less.”
And finally, using Jobs as a specific inspiration, he told his screaming audience that “everything around us that we call life was made up people who were no smarter than you… so build a life, don’t live one. Build one. Find your opportunities and always be sexy.”
Dressed down in a baseball cap, grey T-shirt, flannel and jeans, the Jobs actor initially seemed poised to deliver his usual smart-aleck remarks.
