Stunning and multi-faceted Carlson Young is the most electric talent to storm into Hollywood and is a force to be reckoned right now as she stars as queen bee Brooke Maddox in the TV Series of Scream.
The high school-set TV version of the hit film franchise, “Scream,” follows a group of not-yet-slain students, including unruly socialite ‘Brooke’ (Carlson), in what starts as a YouTube video going viral, that eventually leads to problems for the teenagers of Lakewood and serves as the catalyst for a murder that opens up a window to the town’s troubled past.
With season 2 now playing on Netflix we grabbed 5 minutes with Carlson to chat about Scream and her upcoming wedding to Foster the People’s Isom Innis.
You burst onto UK TV Screens as Brooke Maddox in Scream. Season 2 is currently playing on Netflix – What was it about this role that appealed to you?
I thought Brooke was an interesting role to play because I saw an opportunity to expand her stereotype a little more within the genre.
Actors love to play the mean, nasty roles, what kind research did you do to get Brooke so right?
I have to admit I’ve seen Mean Girls one too many times. It’s fun to be snarky.
The premiere of season 1 attracted six million viewers, why do you think it was so popular?
Well, I feel like a lot of people have seen the movies, obviously. And they were willing to give the show a chance because of that. The TV series portrays the character driven meatier horror scope but it’s full of teen drama.
Was there any doubt that you would return for season 2?
After surviving the 1st season, I was really happy I’d be back for season 2. Obviously mortality rates are high on the show, so I was pretty grateful to have made the cut.
What can we expect to see in Season 2? Does Brooke get any nicer?
Yeah! I think Brooke’s humanized a lot over season 1, and that continues into season 2 as well for sure. If you’re a fan of the character, there’s a few great Brooke moments I think.
Let’s talk about your engagement to Isom Innis, How romantic was the proposal?
It was so amazing!!! It’s the best story. Long story short, we got rescued off the side of a mountain in Iceland… And then he proposed. And the Lord of the Rings score was in the background. It was an all-around dream proposal for me! He is so great- I can’t wait to marry him.
What plans do you have for the wedding so far, any fairy tale princess ideas or are you more conventional?
We’re getting married in Texas next April. I’d love a really elegant wedding. I think it’s going to be beautiful.
What’s the worst fear you have of something going wrong on the big day?
Sort of a nightmare to have your dress rip on the day, or spill red wine or something! I feel like I spill on everything all the time so I need to steer clear of my dress until the last second for sure!
