On our recent visit to the Rivington Greenwich, we dined, feasted on a delightful menu of sexy summer foods and sipped a selection of Plymouth Gin based cocktails while we watched the sun set on what was a beautiful summers day in London.
The Rivington Greenwich is a British restaurant with an emphasis on simple dishes based in the centre of Greenwich, literally in the same building as the Greenwich Picture House, so if you love cinema and food and drinks, you couldn’t be in a better place.
What’s so special about the Rivington Greenwich?
Well, let’s start with the fact that the Rivington Greenwich stocks a whopping 136 different gin’s as well as wines, brandies and other spirits. Let’s also note that they’ve curated a special gin cocktail list using Plymouth Gin and their outdoor decking area is reminiscent of sailing ship.
The restaurant is very relaxed and chilled, albeit a British Menu and I almost felt like I was in Paris, where I could sit and dine and then drink without feeling like the waiters are trying to rush you out of your seat.
Speaking of the waiters, service was nice and friendly, not to hardcore and in your face, but just enough to make sure you are comfortable. I do like it when waiters are attentive but not lurking around my dining table.
From the specially curated Plymouth Gin Menu
- Five Knots – Plymouth Navy Strength Gin, Homemade Jasmin and Grapefruit Sherbet, Lime Juice, Soda & Homemade Jasmin Essence Sprits
- Cinnamon Smoke – Plymouth Navy Strength Gin, Campari, Antica Formula, Kamm & Sons Islay
- The Pennant – Antica Formula, Lemon Juice, Merlet Apricot Brandy, Orange Juice, Plymouth Gin, Plymouth Sloe Gin
- The Gimlet – Plymouth Gin, Lime Cordial
All of the above and I haven’t even mentioned the food. The menu which consisted of everything from oysters to steaks and of course the catch of the day. They even offer a ‘Kids eat free’ Monday-Saturday 12pm-7pm (you can find more details of this on the website).
Let’s get back to the food and the a-la-carte menu.
Picture a beautiful warm summers day, a beautifully presented gin cocktail or prosecco and then ask yourself, how does Dressed Cornish crab with toast, mayonnaise, grated egg white & yolk sound? or Burrata di bufala with tomato, wild rocket & basil dressing? Are you feeling me? And this is just the starters.
But wait, there’s more. If you are on a date night and wanted to get the conversation started, then look no further than a couple of more of the Carlingford rock oysters, hogwash & lemon.
It’s a perfect little conversation starter and ice breaker on date nights plus oysters always seem to make women smile, laugh, blush and sometimes cringe (refrain from words like deep-throat, unless they say it first).
Now let’s take our minds out of the gutter and veer towards the more pleasant, sophisticated side of things.
These are just some of the starters available at the Rivington Greenwich. We then moved onto to the mains which at the moment in time was a tad unnecessary as the weather was hot and we could literally dined on their lovely starters (tapas style) and been completely happy.
How does a Pork tomahawk sound to you?
Grilled ‘Yorkshire Pig’ pork chop, spinach, wild mushroom sauce… A meat eaters delight, the lush mushroom sauce will leave you wanting to lick the plate. We also had to try the Fish Pie made from Salmon, cod, smoked haddock, prawns, peas & mash, summer in Greenwich doesn’t get much better than this.
And away from the main dining area, you can enjoy cocktails and substantial snacks at the bar.
