10 Questions with Tally Spear

Tally Spear

Alternative-Pop singer Tally Spear is set to make a big statement with her debut EP in the summer.

From performing at British Summer Time, supporting Akala and also headlining a packed Upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s, Tally is definitely heading for bigger things. We caught up with Tally about her new single ‘Can’t Find What I’m Looking For‘ and her dream artist to support.

We’re loving your new single ‘Can’t Find What I’m Looking For’, What was your inspiration behind it?

T- I have a habit of giving away the song in the title! This song is an honest confession about the struggle to find meaningful relationships and experiences in a ‘happiness’ obsessed world.

What is your songwriting process like? Do you do anything special to get into the ‘zone’?

T- I just have to hope that when the zone hits, I have a pen and paper nearby. I’m in constant search of the ‘zone’ and ya know, I haven’t found the right recipe yet to make it happen when I want it to. I felt a sudden surge of inspiration for this song and it all spilt out at once.

Your EP is due for release later this summer, Is there one track you hope will be a fan favourite?

T- I’m not sure which track will connect most with others, I suppose you can never know that as the writer – but I’m super proud of each track individually and that’s why I wanted to release them all as singles first before the EP comes out in full.

Was there one experience which made you decide music was something you wanted to pursue?

I’ve just always known that pursuing music is what I needed to do. It’s as though I didn’t even have a choice in the matter. I’ve written music and played and performed since I was young, so it was never really a ‘decision’ but something that I naturally fell into.

Describe your sound in three words?

Fiery. Honest. Raw.

You previously played at festivals such as British Summer Time. If you could create your own festival, what would it be called and who would be your dream line-up?

T- Oh man I’m going to start dreaming this will happen now! RED-FEST. I’d have to call it that. All the lights and stages would be red, and all the food and drink and fashion would be vegan. I’d have Billie Eilish and Miley Cyrus headlining.

Do you have any rituals on tour?

I haven’t been on tour as such yet, but touring and travelling with my music is something I’m most excited about. So I’ll keep you posted on that one, crazy rituals will certainly develop in due course.

Is there one artist or band that you’d love to support on tour?

T- YUNGBLUD. I adore his energy and the fact he’s a bit punk. It’d be crazy fun to tour with him.

What has been your most embarrassing on-stage moment?

T- Oh there have been a few! haha. Perhaps the starting-a-song-and-realising-my-guitar-is-out-of-tune-and-having-to-stop number – a crowd fav.

Since we’re all in isolation, are you doing anything to keep your mind at ease?

T- I’m learning to produce from home, something I’ve always wanted to do but never actually dived into. I’m somebody who is craving being busy like others might be craving sugar! I’ve also been taking pleasure in the simple things – good food, family time, sun on my face. It’s important to embrace those things too.
