The Papillon Grand Celebration Helicopter Tour is a ‘MUST SEE’ thing to do while in Las Vegas.
You may have already read our Romantic Couples Getaway: Las Vegas part 1 where we focused on the spectacular shows we attended in Las Vegas or our Romantic Couples Getaway: Las Vegas part 2 where we focused our attention on our dinning experiences and hotel stays.
Well, we loved the Papillon Grand Celebration Helicopter Tour so much so, that we simply had to give it, it’s own special feature.
Coming to Las Vegas from the UK, meant our body clocks where completely out of synch with the Las Vegas time difference. This meant waking up early in the morning like 5am for the first few nights of holiday.
However the benefit of this was that we had booked a Helicopter flight on the Papillon Grand Celebration Tour for the 2nd day of our stay. We had been picked up from Caesars Palace hotel at 5:45 a.m. sharp on their courtesy shuttle bus, which can pick you up from almost any hotel in Las Vegas so whether you are staying at Planet Hollywood or Paris Las Vegas or any other hotel for that matter, you can enjoy this tour with ease. From pick up we where driven to the Helicopter launch site which roughly took about 30-40 mins to get to. Easy as 1,2,3.
Top Tip: Book this tour during your first few days of stay in Las Vegas. Your body clock will be already set for the early start of this amazing feat.
Excited and full of anticipation we arrived at the Helicopter site and prepared for our journey to the grand canyon. Check-in was easy, we simply went to front desk, filled out a small form, got weighed and then watched a short video giving safety tips and advice for our flight.
What come next was far more than we ever anticipated. Stepping on to the launch pad we saw a array of beautiful helicopters waiting to take us on this fabulous journey. All of the Papillon Helicopters looked pretty much brand new, shining red copters with leather seating made our jaws drop in awe.
Our pilot was amazing. His guided talk throughout our journey was fun. As we boarded the helicopter, and placed our headphones and mic over our heads, it was time for lift off. If you have never been on a helicopter ride, you simply must give this a try.
The flight feel slightly like an aeroplane however, while you hover of the beautiful landscapes, you can sometimes feel like you are not even moving. This helicopter flew very smoothly, this is not a rollercoaster white knuckle ride that we thought it might have been. This is a luxury flight in which even the most timid passengers so should feel comfortable in.
On the Papillon website, in the description of what’s included in the tour, it reads,
- Breathtaking panoramic views of the Hoover Dam, Grand Wash Cliffs, Grapevine Mesa and Grand Canyon West
- Canyon landing 4,000 feet below the rim
- An unforgettable champagne picnic with time to explore
- EC130 helicopter with luxurious comfort and wraparound windows
- Multi-lingual narration
- Hotel pick-up and drop-off
The website description was 100% true, not superimposed at all. Our flight was awesome, so spectacular was the views and the clear blue sky made it all dreamy. Its in these moments that you can propose to your partner and you’ll probably get a guaranteed YES. Can you imagine landing at the bottom of the Grand Canyon to pop the question? WOW.
You are urged by the Papillon Helicopter Tours to take as many photos as you like and take photos we did. We finished what would have been at least 10 camera rolls if we where using old skool film. Luckily today’s technology means that we can take thousands of sensational photos and capture those precious moments.
The flight, the Grand Canyon and the whole experience itself is surreal. The natural wonders of the earth will blow your mind. It’s also a welcome change seeing the Grand Canyon in your own eyes as photos will never give you the real joy of seeing it in the flesh. It’s also worlds about from the built up areas of Las Vegas. It’s like it’s, its own reality check.
Landing on the Grand Canyon was great, we where able to take photos, feed the chipmunks that we saw running around while we enjoyed the supplied champagne picnic they had to offer. NOTE: The Grand Canyon is natural unspoilt land, do not expect toilets or a cafe on the Canyon lol.
We implore you to give this a try, you will never forget this experience and it’s definitely one of those bucket list checklist points to tick off and remember forever.
